Fused glass crafts

We have fine fused glass handcrafts which decorate homes with creativity and put a touch of color in them.

Glass is an antique material which comes from a vitreous rock called ‘obsidian’. The artisan creates fused glass crafts with a double purpose: they are functional and ornamental.

Long ago, about 8.000 years B.C., they were not handcrafts what they created with glass. Instead, they used this material to make domestic utensils like axes, spear points, etc. It was Egypt who industrialized the use of glass to make art objects. Nowadays we use glass fusing as a modern technique to create fused glass handcrafts. Through this method, glass is fused and molded at high temperatures in a kiln.

Unlike the glassblowing technique, fused glass, also called ‘kiln glass’, demands the artist less physical effort, as the objects are created in a kiln where they melt and mold. Moreover it is not difficult or expensive to have a glass fusing workshop in any place at home. It has become a native art, adding to the list of varied autochthonous arts which constitute a solid tradition in Argentina.

Fused glass handicrafts made in kilns are largely produced and there are endless models and designs; these art productions are distributed in exhibition fairs and shops, and people can get to them easily, and choose colorful and innovating things. Fused glass objects are generally unique pieces with exclusive designs.
