Leather craft products

Our leather crafts represent quite a folkloric tradition that has been learnt and transmitted through generations to create innovative handmade objects.

Leather craft pieces in general reflect the dedicated labor of a saddler. It is done accurately and with much singularity; each leather craft is unique. This noble material has a beautiful texture of its own, and so it shows in every detail made by the hand of the artisans.

The Argentinean provinces which best represent autochthonous art with leather craft works are:

  • Salta: where they especially work carved leather pieces, obtaining virtuous examples of autochthonous art. They make leather crafts that refer back to our gaucho’s traditions and way of life.

  • Santiago del Estero, where braiders and saddlers make riding whips, bolas and saddles with great ability. The riding whips from Santiago are much appreciated. They work with tanned and raw leather, with or without hair, from different kinds of autochthonous species like cows, lamb, horses, capybara and so on.

  • Chaco, Jujuy and La Rioja bring forward lots of artisan labor with leather. They make mates, kitchen utensils, belts and musical instruments among other things.

As Mecenas Arts and Crafts, we have toured these provinces, choosing special leather craft to offer our clients. The leather crafts we have constitute an authentic choice for home decoration, or an autochthonous gift which will perfectly represent our folklore in other countries, because it was the ‘gauchos’ who initially worked raw leather to make handcrafts.
