Weaving crafts from Argentina

Weaving crafts from Argentina date from ancestral times. They started as a need to keep warm. Later on, they were made to satisfy many other necessities, and the fabrication techniques became richer as time went by.

Typical weaving crafts from Argentina are made by hand, in looms or in spindles, and they recall the way of life and customs of the people who live on the mountains. The places in Argentina where weaving crafts were mostly developed are the northern regions, and they stand out for their knitting in rustic looms. Ancestral legends and the sceneries of the places where they live, with their birds, snakes, llamas, frogs, and everyday use utensils, have been sources of inspiration to create handmade textiles.

The artisans from La Rioja and Chaco produce exclusive weavings like ponchos, puyos, pashminas, blankets and aguayos or kepes, which are traditionally used to carry babies. Handmade textiles made in looms are much appreciated. They are made with lamb wool, cotton, and smooth fibers of vicuna and alpaca wool, angora, and goat and llama hair. In our shop we have beautiful samples of weaving crafts, some of which are shown in our photographic gallery.

In Mecenas Arts and Crafts we offer valuable contributions to our Argentinean cultural richness materialized in the textile crafts we expose.
